Breaking Down Horse Float Hire Pricing in NZ

Alright, let’s get real for a moment. You’ve got a horse, Grazing at someones property/ your own lifestyle block, or maybe you’re just dipping your toes into the equestrian world. Suddenly, you need to move your four-legged mate from A to B. Horse shows, pony club, riding out.. you need a float.

Buying a horse float?

Oof, that’s a big upfront cost. So, what’s the alternative?

Hiring a float or Leasing a horse float of course!

But how much does that actually set you back?

Let’s break down the horse float hire pricing in New Zealand and get you sorted without breaking the bank.

What’s the Deal with Horse Float Hire Pricing?

First off, you might be wondering, “Why even lease/hire a float instead of buying one?” Well, owning a float is like owning a fancy espresso machine if you only drink coffee once a month. It’s expensive, takes up space, and needs maintenance. Drink coffee everyday? That espresso machine is going to get used, worn out and eventually parts are going to need replacing. Plus you have things like insurance that you personally have to cover.

Hiring? You pay for what you use, no strings attached.

Now, onto the juicy bit - the pricing. Horse float hire prices in NZ can vary quite a bit depending on:

  • Float size and type: Two-horse straight load, Two horse angle load, or any extras to the float.

  • Duration of hire: Daily, Short term or long-term.

  • Distance and location: Some companies charge more for rural or remote areas.

  • Extras: Need a ramp, tack room, or special features? That’ll add to the cost.

For example, a basic Double horse float might cost you back around $100 to $150 per day.

Bigger floats or those with extra features can push the price up to $150 -$200 per day.

What Factors Affect Horse Float Hire Pricing?

Let’s get into the nitty-gritty. Why do prices vary so much? Here’s the lowdown:

1. Float Size and Capacity

Obviously, a bigger float costs more. If you’re just moving one horse, a standard double load is fine. But if you’ve got particular horses with particular needs, you’ll need more requirements. Bigger floats means bigger parts to handle the float with a higher tow rating, More steel, more material - all adding to the price.

2. Hire Duration

Hire floats - We offer short term hires that are more expensive than long term leasing. The short term rates are day hires and week long rates.

Lease Floats - For long term and regular use, as a reflection of the long term commitment you make we have a much cheaper rate than the hire floats. The price for the week can sometimes be equivalent or less than a day hire of a float. So use the float once and its payed for. then you have another 6 days of possible free use you wouldn't have had with a day hire,

3. Insurance.

Commercial insurance is included in the price of our hires. That’s peace of mind for you and your horse.

4. Repairs and Maintenance

Wheel bearings, new tyres, break pads, calipurs, pistons, guiding pins, seals, master cylinders, couplings, break lines, stubs and axles. Basically anything thank tends to be surprise fixes for people that can be painful to the pocket, we cover the costs.

Anything that is a mechanical failure, is not your responsibility.

Only damages caused due to miss use is for the leasee to cover.

5. Servicing and On road costs.

Regular servicing is very important to us to make sure your horses are safe, Keeping all parts in top working order so you can have piece of mind.

Warrants and registration is covered by us!

When your floats warrants due, we will come collect the float. Service it and check it over. Take it for a warrant, then return it back to you. in the event it needs some work. the beauty of leasing and hiring is that your never stuck without transport. We will give you a float that you can use till we can get your one back to you!

6. Road side Assitance.

Mechanical breakages are preventable but sometimes inevitable. In the cases where something occurs and you're stuck on the side of the road with your horses. we will come to the rescue. Even if it means we have to bring you a float to tow your horses to safety!

When Should You Consider Hiring or leasing Instead of Buying?

How often do you actually need a horse float? If it’s just a few times a year, hiring makes heaps of sense. No storage worries, no maintenance, no big upfront cost.

But if you’re on the move weekly, leasing might be better in the long run. It’s all about balancing cost, convenience, and how often you’ll use it.

Having the regular payments for leasing a float means that you can budget easier, and with the repairs and maintenance already sorted for you there is no surprise big budget blowouts. Not like when you on the float. Peace of mind for you to not have to stress about.

People's ambitions change, wants and needs change. When you own a float, you have to sell your current Float if you wanted to buy another one.

With leasing you can just ask the owner to swap the float to one that's more suitable for you for your current situation.

Leasing means that you don't have to pay for insurance, you don't have to pay for any breakdowns, repairs, servicing, maintenance, basically any of the upkeep costs of the float.

This means you're not buying an asset that's gonna loose value over time, rust and wear out. Just to spend all that money again on another one in the future.
